So i am now 28 going to be 30 in june. I run my own business graphic and web design agency. This all involves me being around the computer all the time , and my computer is full of isos and crap. I am in the process of learning c the programming language which takes a fair amount of time for practise and so forth. Now its been slow going.

Heres the problem the other day about two weeks ago i downloaded oblivion 4 one of my old time favorite games for nostalgic purposes. Now this game keeps track of the amount of hour you play when you save. I glanced over about 3 days ago and i was sitting at 120+ hours and i though heck if i had dedicated that to y work. So what did i do, i cheated in the game skills , gold items everything, essentially this ruines a game for me nd i stop playing it. It worked.

However now i find myself wondering what other game can i play. I have a problem.

Short of going to a psychologist, deleting the games ( that wont help cuz il just download them again ) developing self discipline, is there any way out of this.

First world problem i know.

Get a wife. It will cut down your gaming big time. Especially if you have a child soon as well. No need to spend money on expensive psychologists.

Your wife will know it all.

He posted this on 17 March. He says 3 days ago the 14th of March he was on 120+ hours of Oblivion. 8 hours a day which is the work hours which he says he lost makes it 120/8=15 Also he mentioned it was two weeks ago from that day he downloaded it which is 14. So you end up with 14 March 2018 minus 14/15 = 28 February 2018. If you are born in a leap year on the 29 February in a none leap year you can chose any day you want to be your birthday. So he obviously chose to be his birthday some time later probably sometime after today 17 March and then since 2019 is also not a leap year chose that birthday to be on June 2018. That's how he can be 28 today but 30 in June.
or you can see him as 7 years old if he is only allowed a birthday on 29 Feb

hahahaha DEServed i was thinking about the age thirty im turning 29.... Yeah a wife and stuff , wont that cause me to go see a psych anyway ? I just see double the expense.. and what if my kid is a gamer. What if my wife is a gamer ( that would be awesome ) but it would be the end of me.

... Develop a program ( like some sort of antivirus ) that blocks anything it considers a game.

Now i know why at my old jobs the company computers always had solitaire and minesweeper removed.

Make your coding interesting, start hacking the crap out of the games you play or enhance them in whatever way. Win-Win.

Herm, so I went through a serious gaming addiction when younger, almost cost me my future due to failing a year of varsity etc. My suggestion is find out what part of it is addictive and then just don't do it. Cold turkey is the only way. In my case it was online gaming. Playing against real humans is about 50 times as addictive for me so I have banned myself from ever playing online games. I do single player which is far easier to manage while still being a hobby I enjoy. Having a family I needed something where I could pause and walk away at a moments notice if the wife needs help, kids are crying, etc. That is definitely not possible with online strat games as you can't expect an opponent to wait for you to go help out.

Unfortunately the answer is just self discipline. If your self discipline is not enough then you may need to do something more dramatic like get away from PC's for a bit (hard with your career I guess). I had one mate who got heavily addicted to WOW back in the day and lost almost everything as a result. He lived to play. He had to move countries, sell his PC, and go cold turkey living back with parents before he got over it. Take it seriously as it can really get out of control. Games are designed to give you endorphin boosts replacing the one's you are supposed to get from real life accomplishments. Often the best way to kick the habit is to focus on what you have lost and get some real achievement going to help boost your resolve.

And yes, a wife helps tons!
