So my faithful gaming laptop died on me after years of faithful service. I've held off on purchasing a replacement for a couple of months now as I felt that CES was just around the corner a whole host of new updates were released with RTX 30 series cards.

I've managed to find one online retailer who is taking pre-orders so far and am just about ready to blow the bank on my new toy.

Thought I'd come and check here if anyone else has seen any local retailers which have pre-order listings yet?

I did initially reach out to Mustek, Tarsus and Frontosa to see if they weren't willing to share expected dates and which variants were coming in but information was limited.

I've found one with delivery end of Jan or early Feb depending on what you go for. Just wanted to do comparisons, ballpark though price is in line with US rrp's +20% and +15% for VAT.

As to bank...um, yes, that's what I'll be telling my wife.

Cool.

tbh I'd give it a bit more time after CES for it all to crystalize but yeah tough when one wants a new toy haha

Enjoy

Which laptop are you looking for?
Asus ROG strix scar 17.3 with either a 3070 or 3080, 32gb Ram and 2tb ssd. Would specify panel as well but beggars can't be choosers.

Are you able to share or PM me the company you're dealing with?
I have been scouring the internet looking for local pricing/availability and was at the point where I was just going to order from Amazon....

Asus...all day, every day. I'd replace my G75VX with a new laptop running an RTX20-series if I had the cash. The new ones will be way too expensive, and you could pick up a 2019/2020 model at a good price.
Wouldn't bother with any online suppliers here. I'd look at Amazon myself.

New ones are actually coming in cheaper than the rtx 20-series

Mixed feelings about Asus. They gimped their Ryzen TUF laptops. It's very tinfoil hat stuff, but still, it's enough to put me off the brand.

I am put off of Gigabyte / Aorus because of sour grapes with my current laptop and lack of help.

I am leaning towards a Lenovo Legion when it comes time to upgrade. I've heard good things about them. If the build a solid laptop and there is nothing fishy going on between them and Intel, they can spy on me for all I care.

Perhaps things may change with the new lineup from the different brands, but I will not forget.

I will personally always stay away from Lenovo due to the rubbish (and bloody expensive!) work laptop I used to have, and the rubbish one my wife used to have.
I would go Asus, then Alienware and then Acer (Sheesh, all As!). But which offers the best support and style and quality is the one to go for I guess.

I still have the ASUS GM501GS. works fine for all gaming I've thrown at it (i did buy some extra SSD & RAM though). not that i game (often)...
I really think the latest releases are so dramatically overpriced.... give it a couple of months, they drop by 1/3rd of the price

oh, another thing....

Laptops (in my opinion) regardless of how powerful they are.... they get crazy hot.

Mine easily reaches 95???? (when playing anything).

as mentioned, i dont game often.. but i've sampled the below over the past year or so..

It becomes unbearable to actually rest your hand on the "AWSD" keys due to heat...

I know this is a "laptop gaming" thread... but my 2 cents is, gaming should be done on a desktop...

Have you trad a laptop stand or one of those coolers ? Curious to find out if they work

Thermals will be an issue but I will there is definitely major improvements from the 2018-2019 models

Not on mine unfortunately. I have a cooling fan... but as you can see from the picture below... when you open the lid, it lifts the laptop up (hinge type effect).... its supposed to have this efficient cooling mechanism

Unfortunately, the cooling fan I bought from evetech didn't help with heat reduction...
