Cell C Super Sonic surfing, is it any good (for gaming)

Im moving into a new place soon and will probably not have an adsl line. So am looking at some alternatives. Is anyone using this

And is it any good, how are the latencys while gaming, and the download speeds. Any feedback is appreciated.

Is there a specific type of APN i need to activate to allow for optimal online gaming?

thnx for the info, will check out that thread.

*edit

just one more question. Is there any way I can test the coverage in my area. I looked at the coverage map on Cell C and it looks ok but the reality can often be different. I know with Screamer WiMax they come to your place to test the signal strength. I am in the greenstone (jhb)area.

hi. i was the one who posted that gaming thread. how much you will get out of the service all depends on your coverage and how many people use it in your area. i get 9 Mbps download speeds which makes downloading patches and demos for games a breeze. online play is also very smooth. however, you should really test it out before you take the plunge. get a cell c sim card and load a few rands airtime on it and you should be able to tell if you're going to whoosh or not.

1+ but would be much better if you could borrow a speedstick so you could test a game :)

And get FRAPS. Why fraps u say? because if you playing the game and it lags but the frame rate stays constant than its the network thats lagging not the PC (This is assuming you have adjusted the graphics appropriately.

Hope this helps.

I get about 300-400 ms playing on EU servers mostly. 1000MS - 3000MS on bad days. I wonder if an antenna would help.

I have the same router and i am able to access international games very quickly sometimes get the waiting for other players but then i just search again.
I have done all the port forwarding on my router so that might help.

Gaming and Cell C

Just a quick question.
Are ps3 and pc gamers also having incredible trouble playing online these days?

I know it has got to do with the nat settings changing to closed, but does anyone know of any temporary work-arounds?

Xbox live has now become a lesson in anger management as i cannot connect to ANY of my friends games 99% of the time, although matchmaking in some games seems to be fine, but still no friends can join.

I bought this cell c dongle mainly for xbox live, so im sure u guys can understand my frustration.

Is cell c going to do anything about this?

You are aware that PSN is still down right? Been off for about 2 weeks. Should be back up this week though hopefully today.

There was also some change that cell c made just before the PSN crash that they might not have had time to work on yet to see if its resolved. Maybe once psn comes back up Cell C will make a plan. Hold thumbs!
