Hi wolv

unfortunately verdict for now is that Cell C wont have an open APN for gaming.
Not to say we will never, but for the time being there are other pressing matters at hand.
But please be assured that we are looking in to it

I have been getting atrocious speeds in the Douglasdale area... I usually get 50 to 70 ms ping, and 8 to 11 Mbps ... now I'm getting 150 to 300 ms ping and 0.05 to 0.5Mbps... there is no way this is going to work long term for gaming. It does not seem sustainable .

CellC Gaming

Hi CellC,

Is it at all possible to look at a way of making gaming for us CellC users a little less costly?

Thinking of BF3 which is being played on Local servers. This streams at 68kbps which means it will eat 2.2GB worth of data in 10 hours. Please guys I'm going to need your help here or I'll have to make a plan to save costs. This might mean having to move to Telkom /shiver.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Maybe give us free local gaming or create a CellC gaming portal like with DoGaming or something.

Off course you will have problems. Mobile broadband is not TCP/IP. I can't imagine the data usage it will much up because it has to send out more round trips to find a server. Then there's the ack packets they send out even when the connection is not completed.
Does it stay on Hspda or does it drop to 3G when the data is not coming constant? I know I had to make a ping batch ones just to keep it going back to 3G.

I rate you get a 10MB Adsl Line from Telkom.

Then you get a big cap (50GB Cap) from Afrihost (It is unshapped). That should cost you about R1000 per month.

Alternately, if you want, you can get 4MB ADSL from Mweb (Uncapped ADSL + ADSL Line) for R899.

Bwahahaha. You forgot to mention (bandwidth thieving) ARP proxies as well!
