Has anyone stayed at the Southern Sun Garden Court South Beach? Is it nice? And what is the area it is in like?

Its address is:
73 Marine Parade,
South Beach,
Durban,
Postal Code: 4001,
South Africa

Thanks in advance!

Southern Sun Garden Court is located opposite Durban Spa.
The area in front of the hotel towards the beach is okay but the street behind the hotel is dodgy and dangerous. Don't walk around alone or at night....

There is nothing with the South Beach area, if you have your own transport and are only going to use the area as a base to explore the rest of Durban.

If you can afford to, definitely stay in the North Beach area, or even further north in Umhlanga....
What you going to be coming to Durban for? holiday or work?

South Beach is not as nice as the hotels on the North Beach side.

I guess the only plus is that South Beach is closer to UShaka, but if you really want to go there, you would, no matter in what hotel you live.

The food in the Indian restaurant at the Elangeni Hotel is wonderful!

I stayed at the Holiday inn at South Beach right by the beach. Nothing wrong with it. Just use the front entrance which is in Marine Parade road, the back area behind Marine parade is a hell hole. But infront is nice and lovely. I only used the back entrance to go park the car on arrival and on exit when we left ;)

I stayed on south beach in july, at the tropicana, and it was great, sure I did not venture near any back alley or point road at night, mainly sticked to the beach front and well lit areas.

But it was great. It was clean, always police visible, and the new beach front bus system (think its called the durban people mover) was great

Ok, if you have your own transport than it almost makes no difference where you stay in the Durban area since nothing is more than about 25kms away...

The touristy type stuff is scattered all over the city really. If your budget can stretch to it. Have a look at the Suncoast Towers hotel in Suncoast Casino. Its right on the beach (which is a "private" beach) and its pretty close to both Umhlanga and the central area, and its easy to get onto the freeways to get to the attractions that are further away).

What kind of "tourist" attractions are you looking for?
