Contacted ISPAfrika via there website tonight.

Received reply within 5min. Agent confirmed my address is feasible and forwarded me application form.

Pretty impressed so far.

But let's see when I return form tomorrow.

I notice on the application form it mentions something about R2600 for trenching of first 10m. But also says installation is for free until March 2017. I'm a noob with fibre and not keen on surprise costs.

Will obviously ask for complete breakdown of costs before final signature.

Quick question.

Can I use my VOX Adsl Fat Pipe data over a fibre connection? Meaning I can get a line only from Axxess?

Lucky enough to be one of those who got the Uncapped Bolt-On before Vox canned it. And the data package actually suits me perfectly.

You're going to have to ask Vox on that one.

My uncle stays in Garsfontein X10 but is sadly signed into a 24 month LTE contract with Telkom. 10 months left on that unfortunately. The fibre point is sitting on the telephone pole in his back yard.

Still light purple for my house. Garsfontein High School looks like a barrier preventing that dark purple from invading the rest of my area ... :crying::eek:

Don't worry, it's imminent, should be any day now...

Well, to cancel the contract will be about R800 if he didn't get a router with the contract. Otherwise he's going to have to cover the outstanding subsidy of the router too, but it might be worth it.

E.g. I bought my router cash. I have 10 months left on my Telkom 20GB contract. Cancelation fee = R800.

They've been digging and puttering around for months ...

For those of you who have fibre in our area already, who are you using and what speeds are you currently getting. I want to shop around before committing to a service provider.

This is worse than being a small kid having to wait a week for Christmas.

You think that is bad?

Wait until you've submitted your app like I just did and now waiting for final installation and activation. Now that is torture!

I've gone with ISPAfrika 10mbps Uncapped for now. It is R200 cheaper than VOX's same package.

Will let you know how the process goes, what speeds I get and overall feeling.

Mmmm, too bad they have no statement on shaping policy.

I see Afrihost has various packages with pricing based on shaping.

I can understand how that can be a game changer for a lot of people.

For me it is not a massive issue. Mostly use it for basic browsing and a little bit of sport streaming over weekends.

My KODI downloads are scheduled for when we sleep and we are so far behind on shows and movies anyway. Baby keeping us occupied and tired :p

How does one find out in which extension of Garsfontein one lives?
I'm very near to the Windsor Road / Garsfontein Road intersection.

You check on:
http://openserve.co.za/interest-register/location

And no we aren't live yet.

Are you on the security whatapps group for our block? (yes, you are in ext 5, aka block 4 of CPF). Please PM me your number if you aren't and you want to be.

So I did post an Update in the Pretoria Telkom FTTH thread about techie not pitching up twice.

Today he finally pitched up and no installation possible for now. Apparently there is no Fiber Slim Box installed on the outside pole so he has no way to pull it to my house. He phoned his supervisor there and then and requested the Slim Box to be installed. But it is from another department and he can only come back and finish the final install once the Slim Box is up.

So the wait continues. Doubt it will be happening this year. They already seem to be in holiday mode.

There is a smallish black box on my pole, that's not on all other poles, wonder if it's a Fiber Slim Box...
