Can I borrow yours? :p

NO! :p

It could be because my pole is on the corner. So the fibre departs in another direction than from where it arrives, so probably the fibre is joined there and that why there is a Fiber Slim Box, where the splicing occurs as it would need to, to go into the premises.

They've been digging and puttering around for months ...

For those of you who have fibre in our area already, who are you using and what speeds are you currently getting. I want to shop around before committing to a service provider.

I'm alive for two days (ordered 50+ days ago though :( ), running 100 Mbps + 200 GB day time (1TB night time) through WebAfrica.

I'm getting good speeds:

Hot dog! I ordered the same package about a month ago. Will be stoked if I get similar speeds. Fibre isn't live here yet though, but I'll wait patiently (grits teeth).

I've found that most Openserve fibre users generally get good speeds to the ISP (and from there it is up to the ISP's national and international backbones) or no speeds at all (i.e. connection problems).

Luckily so far there doesn't seem to be "congested exchanges" or something similar.

It has been more than a month since I ordered fibre through Webafrica, and even sending them an email 2 January 2017 (after Telkom called me mid December to connect my house to the pole yet never arrived) asking w.t.f. is going on. Can anyone recommend a different service provider for the Garsfontein east area (just behind Atterbury Value Mart), definitely nothing with Telkom in the name, and preferable no-one with Mweb in the name.

Really frustrated.

Does anyone have an idea what is going on with the roll out in X1 (the part that is still light purple close to the mini Pick n Pay)?

We have been light purple for so long (probably around a year, if not more) and no one seems to have any idea what is going on. It has been quite a while since I saw any guys installing / splicing.

I enquired with Openserve but just got the generic response that they don't have any information and that I must look at the coverage map which they will update when fiber is available :(

I complained about WebAfrica's service here a month ago. Since then I tried to cancel my application for Fibre with them, as I decided to go with another company.

I applied 23 November 2016 for Fibre at my house, yet did not hear from them for 2 months. I did raise it in the previous post that a Telkom techie did contact me to fix the connection from the pole to my house mid December, but he never came back. I took this up with them with a few emails (Alzonia, Dawn, Stephanie, Kevin, Justin) but never heard back, only a promise that they will revert back. I then opened a ticket 25 January, asking them to cancel the order as I decided to go with a different company (both more expensive as well as I have to pay for the installation service). I just went online to see the status of the ticket, and I see that it is still open.... Seriously ...

I would have loved to go with WebAfrica, but if the fibre service is similar to their support services I am truly scared of them.

I also have an application in for a Fibre installation at our office since 30 August 2016 ... I see that fibre is active in our area according to the Telcome coverage map, yet nothing .... seriously.

My fibre was installed by openserve on Thursday, took about 3 hours. Sent the fibre details to Afrihost and they eventually send the login credentials. Initially used the Afrihost ADSL credentials which worked.

I have a Netgear N300 DGN2200v4 ADSL router and turned on the WAN port and connected it to LAN port 1 of the locked down Huawei router installed by openserve and it just connected itself.

As the telkom site states "Excellent News!".

Now before I go ahead and just order with WA, could some of you fine fellows in Garsfontein provide me with your feedback (Provider, Cost, current UP/DOWN and overall experience). Since getting fibre has your usage increased?

Usage is currently video streaming (4 of us at times), some online gaming and general browsing.

I am currently paying R750 + R200 for a 10 meg ADSL capped with 400gig (on average we utilise around 100 - 150gig)

Thanks
Jase

10mbps on Afrihost Premium Uncapped, R899 (so that not the cheapest package, which is Home, which is more shaped).

Playing CSGO is much nicer now, often with a 5ms ping.

I play online more, nothing else has changed really. was on 10mbps ADSL before. The increased upload speed is really nice.

Well I ordered my line on the 6th and Openserve is here doing the installation. I'm helping the guy on the roof with the cable etc. Very interesting to see the various tools especially the cable 'joiner'.
