So a strong gas smell woke me up, it was strongest in my en suite bathroom.

Not sure where it is coming from. The only thing that have gas is my airconditioner, but the smell is not very strong there, i.e. the same as the rest of the room.

Whilst I was moving about, my wife woke up, confirm she can smell the gas and then when back to sleep.

Just looking for options as to what it can be?

I flushed the toilet, ran water in basin/shower etc, in case it was sewer gas, but sewer gas should stink?

It's outside as well?
Could it then be the gas pipeline that's in old parts of Jhb?

House was built in 2001, in Cape Town, no gas lines.

Hence my thoughts, either aircon or sewerage.
Sewerage won't have a gas smell like that. Neighbours with gas?

Not leaking coolant from the a/c?
No leaks of the insulation blowing gas from the fridge?

Something dead (like a rat) or sulphur from a drain? (Googled)

Thanks for suggestions.

Lpg Gas is in garage opposite side of the house. No small gas cannisters in house.

Split aircon unit on opposite sides of the same wall.

Fridges are in kitchen which is next to garage, no smell from there.

I will use some soapy water on the AC lines connections this afternoon.

I had something very similar.

At 10pm boom the mains trip switch exploded.

The smell was the incoming power not connecting 100% as the nut has loosened and was shorting and giving off a smell similar to gas.

Check fridges as well as suggested

Hope you solve the mystery
