EDIT: wait, nevermind...

However, Vadi said that government will not scrap the existing e-tolls. “There will be no review of phase one of the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project,” he said.
So basically all this is is them realising that any more eTolls will be a waste of money because the road users are dissatisfied with the existing phase one eToll. But we'll keep the existing phase one eToll in place because one out of every 10 cars were dumb enough to register and is providing them with income. So now, because of the greedy ANC and spineless motorists we'll end up with eTolls and fuel levies/tax instead of just the later.

Lets see how much longer will it take them to realise that that they can't bully the nation the way they wanted to...

It's actually quite ridiculous. If they don't scrap phase 1, then it'll just be incredibly unfair towards motorists who have to use those roads. Why should they continue to be shafted?

Sounds to me more like a "Uhmmm - no-one is paying e-tolls; let's pretend that we scrape it and introduce an extra fuel-levy so that we can pay back Kapsch"

Exactly. Why keep it there? Just to not admit that everybody who told them it wont work were right?

Everytime I walk past an e-toll store and see people actually lining up to pay....I think about bombs.

Once they scrap phase 2 and three, the idiots paying for phase 1 will be really pissed and the last 10% will also stop paying. So please go ahead and do that.

The whole thing sounds like, "we won't scrap eTolls, AAAAAAND we will hike the fuel levy". They want to shove themselves deeper up our buttholes.

As long as they don't try it in the Western Cape, they can do what they like in Gauteng. What an ill-thought out idea in the first place!

OMG! They can't have a provincial fuel levy AND keep the current e-tolls. Screw that! Mean I will still pay to keep having to use the back routes and free sections yet still have to pay more on fuel? :(
