Five people have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a man and holding him for ten days.

The 25-year-old victim was rescued from a property in Devon, Gauteng, on Saturday. Three suspected kidnappers were at the property, "guarding the victim", and were immediately arrested, said police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda.

Another man was arrested in Leandra for allegedly demanding a ransom.

A fifth man was also arrested in Leandra. He was found in possession of a firearm, cellphones, and SIM cards, said Netshiunda.

The five suspects, aged between 35 and 50 years of age will appear in court soon on charges of kidnapping, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition as well as extortion, added Netshiunda.

What about the many thousands still not found? This country is worse than South America back in the day. Dangerous place.

It's a growing "industry", but you are fantasizing on the number of people not found.

Graphic gives source.

Oops, Saps which means there’ll probably also be a significant amount unreported because often kidnappings are done hush hush and people pay up.

Is there any info on the demographics, the Pakistani guys seemingly started the kidnapping business in a big way in South Africa but they appear to mainly target other Pakistani people.

Also bear in mind that the stats will include charges laid by separated parents who don't return a child to the custodial parent when they're supposed to.

They won't all be the type of cases we imagine when we hear the term "kidnapping".

I wonder of the R 6 000 kidnappings is not ransom related? I.E custody battles etc. The economy is not helping, people will do anything to get their hands on money.
