The supply of electricity to many parts of Gauteng will remain erratic over winter, with illegal connections and the continued roll-out of smart meters contributing factors.

Had 8+ Hour outages today and Thursday the 16th as well, both due to Medum-Voltage cable theft happening in the middle of the night, which is typically only repaired late in the afternoons.

If they supposedly know that this round of load shedding (let's call a spade, a spade here) is as a result of illegal connections, then they have evidently completed research on where the illegal connections are, or they're talking out of their bums. On account of them being illegal, knowing where they are, and realising the problem that these connections are causing, they have an imperative to disconnect them and employ security at each known site to prevent reconnection.

Unfortunately, ignoring it and announcing load shedding by another name with no schedule, has fewer negative political repercussions than actually resolving the problem, given the proximity to local elections. To the detriment of the economy. Time for yet another public protector probe into state resources being hijacked for political purposes...
