A Gauteng traffic official, who allegedly hijacked a police officer's car in Randfontein, has been arrested.

The 29-year-old official, who twice tried to evade arrest by the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD), was apprehended on Monday.

He was found in possession of a hijacked white Volkswagen Polo in Dobsonville, Soweto.

According to JMPD spokesperson, Xolani Fihla, officers received information from Crime Intelligence of an off-duty SAPS member, who had been hijacked in Randfontein.

"The information also indicated that the suspects were on their way to sell the vehicle in Meadowlands," Fihla said.

He said the team was strategically placed at Impala Road in Dobsonville Gardens, Gauteng, to be on the lookout for the vehicle.
