So quite a few new tenders in the making.

Drones and cameras do not arrest suspects, so who is going to back up this intel with action?

Our main routes have cameras, but they are not connected to anything because that tender was never allocated.

Very ambitious plan. South Africa's largest drone operator "only" has 190 aircraft. https://uavdronesolutions.com/.

Another problem is that they will have to be operated in strict adherance with the law (which is often ignored by commercial and hobby operators). This will place a variety of restrictions on the operations, especially in Pretoria where things tend to get complicated.

Yes please. Crime, corruption and racism are the last pillars to fall before this country becomes a dream destination

I find the comments here lacking vision, if SA got some of those Iranian drones then SAPS can just blow up the criminals in action, no need for police on the ground, prisons, courts,...

How easy is it to Jam 500 drones?

On a positive note I know of one company actively training women to become qualified commercial drone pilots using the DJI Matrice M30. Absolutely amazing functionality on that drone including as I witnessed, remote observation zoomed on a subject about 2.5km away.

500 drones need 500 employed drone operators. 500 less salaries available for police who could be out on the road fighting crime instead of watching crime.
Not true. Semi-autonomous drones in the professional / policing industry have been available for well over a decade. One operator can control a number of drones. A drone can completely control itself with given way points to monitor certain areas, including full autonomous take-off and landings.

Police are already just admin for getting case no for insurance claims. Now they are turning the police into admin jobs.

The City of Cape Town's Metro Police use drones all the time. It's not a new technology or a new way for fighting crime. It's well established in the SA security sector.

Technology can help you do a job; but it helps nothing if you're not doing the job to the best of your ability already. This will turn out to be a waste of money, like all the computers and tablets bought for schools where the teachers don't know how to use them.
