Who must pay for Springboks and Proteas matches to be available on SABC and E-tv

Communications minister Solly Malatsi has said his department is working on an Audio and Audio-Visual White Paper to determine which sporting events featuring national teams should be free in South Africa.

While the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) tried to do so in its proposed amendments to the Sports Broadcasting Rights Regulations in 2021, this received backlash from industry stakeholders.

You can pay with the money that Hlaudi Motsoeneng stole .
If I cant afford something then I cant have it.
Entitled bunch of IDIOTS.

You mean the tax payer must pay and just shut up.

End of the day, that is what happens.

The current situation where Government's Brain is idling in neutral, and every Tom Dick, Harry and their mangy dogs, are dreaming up schemes, and passing the buck, is ultimately costing the Tax Payer lots of extra money. To no good purpose and no value what so ever.

Right everyone should pay extra tax so that fat losers can sit on their couches and watch winners on TV

Progress defined....

i do love news where someone is giving away other people's money.

Reality is, we will pay for the SABC - one way or another. Be it a TV license, a ring fenced tax, or straight up out of the general tax pool.

What is not clear, is how the funding will take place, what, if any limits on this funding.

But pay we will.

Wut? No way the license will be so much that upping the taxes a bit to cover it would be more than DSTV. It would likely be waaay waay less.

R10mil? That's R10 more a year for SA's 1mil tax payers.
R100mil? That's R100 more a year.

See where I'm going with this? It's a good deal.

It is not a good idea, Lisence is R265.00 a year.

You make it a Tax, and then you have no idea, how much you are going to pay. R100.00 a month = R1200.00 vs R265.00 a year currently

Your Gov can't pay. The rate they spending money, there's not nearly enough to pay for sport. What's the % of tax payers in SA? MC is hanging on by a thread it seems.

MC and company created an unsustainable business model. They must deal with it.

If Government taxes the 7 million tax payers to pay for Sport on SABC and other SABC :expensise" they will still be paying and supporting the remain 53 million, who don't pay taxes.

You mean the sporting bodies who sell the rights? Why blame MC? Are they the sporting bodies?
Do you blame the us for the price of goods at Spar? Blame the sporting bodies and the government that doesn't pay them enough to keep the sport running.
