On the one hand I can understand why it may seem like a good idea to protect system that are critical to the operation of the machines they build. On the other hand it will put hard working specialist that are not affiliated with GM out of business. For example a GM TECH 2 Diagnostics tool is way more expensive than an equally good OP-COM tool. It will also put a question mark over the legality of tracking and telemetry units that tap into the CAN BUS of vehicles to monitor various parameters.
