You can with LFP, not so with LA. 50% is the bear minimum with LA. Some people only take theirs down to 85% SOC. It's all about the cycles.

Yep, we have four Omnipower 120ah/12v deep cycle gel hybrid batteries which I monitor closely and have taken down to close to 50% before but try and preserve them as much as possible for load shedding and use them during the day to blend with solar to avoid using the grid.

Checked with local sunsynk support and it only applies to the newer units . Was really hoping its the same MPPT and just a software limitation.

Ive been looking at the two options. The quietest genny you can get for the power i need is the honda eu65is inverter gen at R60k.Its a 6.5kva unit with 5500W.Im in a complex so cant have a noisy gen.
Ive phoned a few inverter supply companies and they reckon about R40k for a similar inverter unit with batteries.
I need to run the following:
1 x 12000 btu split unit aircon, non inverter (new ac)
10 x overhead energy saving bulbs at 14w each, not led
2 laptops and chargers
Fibre line, fibre router so we can work on laptops and have internet
2 x 32" full hd led tvs and two dstv decoders

Price aside when we run into stages 3 to 8 the gap between sheds can be as short as 2 hrs.I believe the batteries take 6-8 hrs to fully charge.
So im undecided as both have advantages and disadvantages.
Any advice,suggestions greatly appreciated.
Hi if you want to do it purely for loadshedding then a generator would be the cheapest once of cost, way to go. But if you want to be self reliant and save some money then inverter with solar and lithium batteries is the way to go.

Sorry for the noob question, but now with Stage 3 just hitting, can anyone recommend an inverter/battery solution + installer in Cape Town area to bridge the 2.5 hours of load shedding? Looking for something cost-effective that can integrate with DB to power a few LED lights and plugs to run TV, laptop, second screen and router/ONT? Thanks in advance.

Pretty cheap!

No idea if these are rubbish or not but that's cheap for lithium ion
Thanks, but no thanks...
