That is correct, but it's my understanding that Wignut wants to run a Pylonech 2000B and 3000B in parallel.
The one having a capacity rating of 2.4 kWh and the other 3.5 kWh.

With both of these LiFePO4 batteries in the fully charged state they will be at 54 V.

Lets assume the load is 4.8 kW and use a nominal voltage of 48 V.

Total current draw will be 100 A with a split of 50 A delivered by each battery.

After 1 hour the 2.4 kWh battery will be depleted. The internal BMS will disconnect this battery from the bank.

The remaining 3.5 kWh battery will now carry the entire load, so the current draw of the 3.5 kWh battery will go up to 100 A.

The 3.5 kWh battery can only deliver 100 A for 15 seconds afterwhich it will also be disconnected by its internal BMS
wouldn't the battery with more cells draw more current? so it wouldn't be a 50/50 split, so for example, the small battery will draw 40A and the bigger 60A for example so they'll be empty at the same time?

it seems the pylontech 2000 is rated at 100A draw, but the 3000 is rated at 74A according to the website. my brain is truly fired now.

No, the 2000 is 50A max and the 3000 is 74A, they are all 100A peak.
thanks, my brain not hurting so much now. surely the 3000 peak should be higher than the 2000? must have something to do with the wiring inside i would think.

Anyone use Solar MD batteries? They are a Cape Town based battery manufacturer but don't sell directly to the public.

Quote from a local reseller for their 7.4kw lithium battery is R38k.

How does it compare to Pylontech? It seems even lithium batteries not equal.

Must say its easy to make a mistake. When I saw below I was super excited!

Doesn't provide much relevant info.

I'm in Pretoria. Any suggested places.

Only place I saw at that price R21 940 was out of stock and seemed to be in PE?

Free shipping but I dont know the place,

so risky

Edit:

Found for R20 999 below

Those inverter warehouse guys were useless before Corona, I can just imagine how useless they are now. I don't think you will find many good reviews about them.

Yeah they're not great in terms of service. I did buy some stuff from them but I got on their asses ASAP and went to collect. Wouldn't make use of them if they weren't close to me, which they are.

I've installed a couple of that exact setup
But your average DIYer will not come right with the Victron. The Axpert is a much easier inverter /UPS
This is an installation by go-solarelectrical. Not sure where as they seem to work in Pretoria Bloemfontein and Durban

Installation location

I have 3 possible locations for where the inverter and batteries will be stored but can't decide. Distances indicated are cable length.

First option is under my carport right next to the municipal DB and meter box. My internal distribution board is about 15m away. The inverter is IP65 rated so should be able be fine there. Its open on the one side but is not directly exposed to the elements and will not get wet. Just concerned if the batteries can also go there.

Second option is against the wall in the open plan kitchen/dining area with batteries on the floor. Very little traffic in this area of the house. Fridges will be moved if I choose this location. Distance to DB is 7m. Wife is not interested in this option. DB is literally a couple of meters behind me in this pic.

Third opportunity is space in my ceiling. I have a fairly high pitched roof with nearly 3m of head space to work with and lots of space to mount the unit and batteries. Thinking of using the space to the right of chimney in the attached pic. There's already a floorboard in that section of the roof. Distance to DB is about 10m. 20200714_202733.jpg 20200714_202654.jpg 20200703_165153.jpg

It's a battery that's been so used up to a point that it's not worth using for its orginal purpose anymore.
Its only rated for 1500 cycles.

A new Polyntech is rated for 6000 cycles

Mecer is 12V 200 A so 2.4kW.
2.4 kW x 1500 = 3 600 kW capacity
R6500 / 3600 kW = R1. 8/kw

Polyntech 2.4 kW
2.4 kW x 6000 = 14 400 kW
R15000 / 14 400 kW =R1. 04/kW

And you will need at least 2 of the Mecers so now you spending R13k

Might as well buy the Polyntech at R15k
I will need four of those for my 48v inverter so not worth it at that price.

Ceiling is out due to heat, batteries don't like it.
Personally I would not do the carport due to ease of theft, unless you secure it tight, concrete, steel and alarms add to the costs, as does copper wire lengths.
Kitchen / Dining room area sounds appropriate, but why on the floor, why not raise it above eyeline and paint the enclosue white or some other neutral colour? I understand the need to please the wife, but does she enjoy cooking by candlelight?
