Get instant SMS loadshedding alerts viaTwitter SMS updates

If you are on MTN you have access to twitter via SMS for free.

SMS Eskom_SA or Eskom_MediaDesk or both to 30002.

You will get a reply to quickly register or sign in if you already have twitter.

Just follow the prompts and once logged in or registered you simply sms FOLLOW Eskom_SA or FOLLOW Eskom_MediaDesk or sms both not in the same message.

This would mean you get a sms each time those twitter accounts tweet something like loadshedding or predictions of loadshedding.

You can also use the 30002 number to sms to for free to tweet if you wish to do so.

Service is free for MTN customers. Use it don't use it but I find it very useful as no internet on the device is required to get any updates via twitter whether it be sport updates,news or in this case loadshedding.

Thanks for the info Cavedog!

I'm following Eskom on Twitter, however I removed Twitter from my phone since it goes bonkers every now and then and drains my battery (Cyanogen Mod with Galaxy S2) to 0% in a few hours, so this definitely sounds like a great alternative

No problem. I do follow them and get instant loadshedding updates via sms. Very cool feature actually.
