Get ready for record high petrol prices in South Africa - AA

The Automobile Association of South Africa (AA) expects another hefty hike in fuel prices to be announced next week will lead to record high prices for 95 unleaded petrol in South Africa in April.

Commenting on unaudited month-end fuel price data released by the Central Energy Fund, the AA stated that the prices of all types of fuel were set to rise.

"According to the latest data, petrol is set for a massive increase of 73 cents a litre, diesel an increase of 39 cents, and illuminating paraffin and increase of 37 cents," the AA said.

Yet we are nowhere close to the record oil price from 2008 of $147/barrel. Just shows how far back we've gone since then with the value of the rand fuel taxes being major contributors to our record petrol price.

Fuel prices affect the whole value chain, everything goes up.
Yet it never really goes down when fuel goes down, this time last year it was dropping back to almost R13 a liter and that's when the Rand was sky high, you'd think the high oil prices would be compensated by the lower exchange
