I am new with getting ADSL. Ordered on 5th August

Now they phoned me 10 minutes ago to say they coming tomorrow to install. This includes a phone line and i'm getting them to do the adsl at the same time.

I havn't got an ISP yet but i do have my modem/router.

So i want to know what happens when they come in and install. Do they just put the line in and test it then leave. Can i tell them where i want the line to be etc. I dont want them to touch my pc. Plus How long does it take??

Then when i get an ISP (not sure which one yet) i must setup everything myself.

All help comments hints and tips will be greatly apriciated.

First Tip:
Just because Telkom say tomorrow, doesn't mean it will actually happen tomorrow, so don't get your hopes up.

Second Tip:
If you are intending to go with TelkomInternet, pick up the phone to order the moment the techie leaves, it will take at least 2 days to go through.

Third Tip:
Don't use Telkom Internet.

Isp choice + package depends on what you plan on using adsl for and your anticipated usage.

I ordered everything already. telephone line and ADSL 384 line rental from telkom.

Not using telkom internet only for the line as we have to.

LOL shame people give him some real answers, you can see he's new to this, okay http://www.axxess.co.za/ recently dropped their prices making them the cheapest ISP. go with them, start with a standard 3gb account and see how things go. whatever you do, DO NOT sign a 24 month contract with ANY isp. you will want to change sometime propably.

but ja dont get your hopes up on getting it tomorrow, if they said tomorrow it propably means "in the future" like absa says "today, tomorrow, together" they mean forever, not tomorrow as in the day after today, so telkom means the same....

if you want 'the cheapest' than the http://www.cybersmart.co.za 3 gig account easily beats everything else, and their registration process is very simple.. just read the terms and conditions first, because some people seem to have problems with them..

if and when GTS launches, they WILL be the cheapest... www.goal.co.za

Per GiB GOAL are only cheaper if you go for their 10GB or larger package.

Cybersmart : R41.66 per GiB (3GB account - 384kbps)
GOAL : R45.6 per GiB (5GB account)
Axxess : R59.66 per GiB (3GB account)

one uses SAT3 for international access(telkom) while the other also uses some of SAT3, most of its traffic is thru satelite, which makes IS have terrible lags according to some users.
But IS has a soft cap, which means u can still surf local for another 10gigs or 30gigs. Can use that for their news server or from openweb u got openbrowse, which allows u to just browse.

Anyways, both got their good and bads ;)

Damn!!! That First tip is so true...
I've ordered a self-install package and already setup my router and all ready for my ADSL, my line was supposed to be activated on Saturday, but...nothing

So i phoned again, and now they can't help me until they've finished some "Ring" project on my exchange, which takes 11 working days:mad:

I was so excited, but now all i can do is stare at my router, turn it on and watch the little green light flash repeatedly as it attempts to sync with a "non activated" line :(
