I have to say I like the sound of him... I think (for the moment) he may actually have the general public's good at heart.

That he is willing to address problems with high costs, dissatisfaction etc are positive indications. I suppose pessimists may say that there's no indication of how they'll be dealt with. Could very well be with a pair of concrete boots for all those who complain :p :)

I did enjoy this...

Kaplan found it strange that a person without telecommunications experience was selected: “Sizwe Nxasana also didn’t have telecoms experience [he’s an accountant]

Perhaps that's the reason for our current trend into insane prices? :)

As long as Telkom's cronies doesn't try to brainwash him into raising salaries... :p

Let's hope he cuts out a lot of dead wood and replace it with fresh, lean, green and keen wood... and cuts a lot of overhead and high prices as well...

We shall see.

Did you notice how many times he mentions remaining a "profitable business". which means theyre not prepared to drop prices even though he has the "publics heart" in mind.

The only way prices are coming down is through regualtion or competition, the new CEO isnt going to drop prices out of the goodness of his heart.

they hired an accountant to do an engineers job. now they're hiring someone who admittedly has no telecomms experience, yet continually mentions shareholders. this explains where their priorities lie. while he acknowledges the high prices, i personally think its just hot air to prevent early criticism. in anycase, decisions are made by the board of directors and not by one man alone. try replacing the entire board with people who know what they're doing, and then maybe theres a glimmer hope.

see my brain dump on where i think they are headed? they are going to extract themselves from retail telecommunications, they are already investing heavily in Southern African infrastructure, they have diversified hugely...people i'll put money on it - they are going to be the telecomms giant of wholesale delivery throughout southern africa.....we are all going to be stuffed because by doing that, they not only set the core price for all competition through fixing the wholesale price, but taint the market by fixing it in neighbouring countries too. DoC created a monster and it is running away from any kind of containment.

its sad really. to hinder other countries who actually WANT to progress in the world just because we're not progressing - thats just selfish and heartless on telkom's part. the analogy is that if you knowingly have the ebola virus, and instead of containing yourself, you purposely interact with and infect the general public out of spite - just because you have it you feel you shouldn't suffer alone.
you're 100% right peapod, i see things heading the same way :( everything south of the equator will soon be crippled

Well before we start condemning Telkom to utter bastardness, remember that this may not go that way... it is possible (however unlikely) that Telkom actually has it right this time round. That they're as keen for movement in the industry as we are.

Well, we'll see :)

New Telkom CEO Papi Molotsane is rolling up his sleeves to maintain Telkom’s stellar financial performance in the face of competition, as the second network operator (SNO) shapes up.

Thats Telkom shareholder speak for "how much more can we rape the south african public for"

....see new Telkom ADSL bandwidth charges
