Swiss tuning firm Sportec has boosted the power of Volkswagen's 1.4 TSI Golf GT to 150kW.

The 1.4-litre unit - which generates 118kW in standard form - also produces a claimed 287Nm - topping the Golf GTI's 280Nm
This performance upgrade will invalidate the car's warranty
.
Sportec remapped the ECU to raise the pressure settings of the TSI unit's turbocharger and supercharger, and tweaked the ignition timing.

It says the car will now sprint from 0-100 in 6.8sec (down from 8.2). Fuel consumption has increased from 6.3 to 6.8 litres/100km, Sportec admits - but that's still better than the GTI's claimed 7.3.

VW warns that this performance upgrade will invalidate the car's warranty but, for those who're willing to risk that, the conversion kit from Sportec costs £550 (R7000) and is available in the UK from Automotive Performance Services. - Reuters

More power and better economy than a GTI. The VW engineers must feel like twats.

Probably at the expense of reliabilty?

Thought they were 110kw standard ...

Is it save to remap the ecu to get more power? I have a Jetta 4 Tdi, and it can be done with him too, but I dont want to, cause I dont know if it is a save thing to do.

The normal 1.4tsi is 110kw, the sport is 118kw, same like the Scirocco.

Its not as safe as a standard car would be, the software is used to manipulate the ECU... things can go wrong... but rarely does.

Mmm, R282k + R7k as opposed to R322k. Interesting option when you looking at the Scirroco.

Whats the difference between the Automotion Service and Maintanance plan? I would assume the Maintanance plan is the warranty?

Omg people... get a real car.

Only thing 150kw golf will do is kill you.

A Golf 6, not Citi Golf. ;)

Still !

If you understand what modifications they have to do with racing golfs to make sure they don't fall apart then you would never step near a 150kw street golf

I doubt some ECU mapping is going to change the 5 star rating it has.

It's like overclocking a CPU without changing the motherboard

Extra strain being put on the engine would cause problems in the long run.

I would rather change the engine parts, better reliability and performance.

So you would take a Dihatsu over a Golf 6 or R32 or Toureg or Jetta or Passat?

I doubt its only a software change, theres definatly some hardware changes, bigger turbo, inter coolers, injectors... then maybe software.

One excludes servicing and parts, the other includes everything like a motorplan.... I think.

Yes, because I'd hate to go back to the dealership all the time moaning and complaining. In fact I did own a VW, and a Citroen, but after problems I got rid of them for a Honda instead. That in my own experience worked for me.

I'd never get a passat or jetta either, i'd be scared other road users would see me, fall asleep and crash into my car.
