At a minimum these Ministers should be taxed for the benefits which extend beyond themselves. If you bring the wife and she add R100k to the trip, then you should get taxed for that R100k as a benefit.

There is zero ****ing reason why you should get to take the wife and kids on a business trip for free.
Pretty sure they get taxed on it, but then I'm pretty sure they get an additional top-up to cover the tax. That's just how things like this roll.

'Don't come here with your white tendencies!
If their tendencies were white they'd be in bed with business interests and riding a gravy train.

These people need to get beyond the pre-teen level argument that "technically it's allowed so no problem".
Not excusing the ministers' behaviour, but you realise that it's the same argument capitalists use to justify their amoral behaviour.

7.1.2 Members, their spouses and dependent children who out of necessity cannot
remain at home are entitled to accommodation and subsistence at expense
of the relevant Department (in any hotel or hostelry) when fulfilling official
duty away from their ordinary places of residence, also as well as in cases
where spouses fulfil official duties on their own
So why couldnt they stay at home, this wasnt necessary.

In Nene's case, that expense is really not bad. Only R125,000 on travel expenses since his reappointment? That's cheap. Half a million between 2014 and 2015, when he was traveling internationally? That's not enough for one cross-country trip for Lindiwe Sisilu. His wife seems really nice too.

Yup. Generally acting to the letter of the law is open to abuse and a general culture of following the spirit of the law would be great. But difficult to implement.

Are austerity measures always superseded by the handbook? Seems like any austerity measures preached at budget time are ignored.
