Gigabit broadband on the rise worldwide

Scheduled to arrive in SA in about 40 years.

EDIT: Look at Africa on the map near the end of the article. Hahaha.

SA... The stinky armpit of the internet access world.

Still don't see an actual use case for the average home owner.

Perhaps there are people out there that feel the need to stream 200x HD streams simultaneously...by all means...go for it.

I'm sticking to 100mbit for now.

Costs R2k a month (not out of line with international standards tbh).
Its definitely on the high side internationally.

Please give me 100mbit. Wait, can't get it unless I pay a huge sum of money that I doubt anyone can afford bar the extremely rich.

Yes. Its more a question of availability atm in SA because its still only specific areas. Cost wise its not that far off from say DSTV or VDSL.

A bit, but I'm not complaining :p

I know, but there is no such thing as fiber over wireless. It is either a fiber connection or a wireless connection, not both. "Fiber over wireless" is false marketing, it is wireless. The connection to the tower might be fiber, but the last mile is wireless.
