Going to watch the rugby next weekend with a bunch of bulls supporters. I haven`t watched a single game this season.
Please give me some one liners of relevant rugby trivia for the inevitable moment where everyone is going to be a commentator.

Too really demonstrate your advanced rugby knowledge repeat, whenever necessary, how Morne Steyn's game is limited to his ability to kick for posts.

Some people state you should mention that he is "the best guy ever" but I personally think your mates may start suspecting you are just a little bit gay if you do....

Wear a WP jersey with the number "32" on it. They'll ask you why you're wearing it and what the number means. You'll tell them it's just a reminder that WP has won the Currie Cup 32 times, more than any other team. Bulls only won it 22 times. Then hand that WP jersey to the most aggressive Bulls supporter present, revealing your Free State jersey underneath. The next 2 hours should be quite interesting. :)

32 wins? I count 29 wins, of which 17 had no final (and only had four competing teams).

The first final was played at Newlands in 1939, Western Province vs Transvaal.

The Blue Bulls (formerly Northern Transvaal) only entered the competition in 1938. Number of Currie Cup wins since 1938 -
Western Province: 12
Blue Bulls: 19

I'd think twice about that plan of yours :p

EDIT: Disclaimer, most of these statistics were found on Wikipedia, which is not the most reliable source of information as we know :p

Condemn all up-an-under kicks from any player in any team. Because the days of it being called tactical kicks is long gone. Very few international players drop high balls so the team kicking, always end up worse after the kick.

Hmm, not so sure about this... the up and under still has a place in rugby.

The success of it is less about the actual kick though and more about the chase. With today's scavengers a good tackle and quick jump to the feet often results in a penalty for the tackled player holding on or a turnover.

Placement of course is also important. A good up and under needs to come down just outside the 22. This removes the ability to mark and also the ball cannot be kicked straight into touch.

What are the options of a team receiving an up and under? They can choose to attack but it will be from deep within their half. Or they can choose to kick but if it was a well placed up and under they can't kick straight into touch so the margin for error is small. A kick also gives possession back to the team that kicked the up and under and gives them a set piece to work from.

Yes, an up and under may not always look pretty but it serves a purpose. The same as people booing Frans Steyn's ridiculously long drop kick attempts. A miss just means the opposition needs to give the ball back to you from a 22 anyway. Nothing lost.
