I'm experiencing a slight case of deja vu

Thought so - September 12, 2018

A mother in South Africa has emerged from a coma and her toddler son is in stable condition after they were attacked by a giraffe near their Limpopo home last week, reports say.

The reason hippos are prolific killers is not people thinking they won't attack because they are herbivores.

They also like to take shortcuts between the farm and the compounds after work through the citrus orchards and then run into hippo mc hippy face

Being in close proximity to human settlements (rivers where people draw water/do laundry, farms on river banks) is the reason, not because people think "Oh Hippo is a herbivore let me poke him."

Carina Crayton from the Wild Heart Wildlife Foundation explained why the giraffe mother had to be put down.

"In tragic situations like this, the animal is almost always euthanised. This is because of the mandate to protect human life.

Yeah don't see why the giraffe must have to suffer for human stupidity. Would be interesting to find out what lodge they lived at because a lot of the listed ones don't allow kids that young.

Same thing happened in one of the Nordic countries the other day (Norway?). Some sea lion decided to visit a marina for a couple of days. Authorities told the people to leave it alone as it is dangerous, they wouldn't so they put it down for public safety.

Normally I understand the need for culling but when **** like this happens and it was entirely avoidable (ie. the animal is left alone, the animal is not in captivity or there for entertainment on your game drive) then ****ing put the human down instead.

I have never heard of a lodge excluding kids - perhaps one of those exclusive $$ only lodges.
Besides, she worked there.

It was a very tall animal (long neck, spotted like coat, long legs). That better?
As someone said, most game reserves do not allow kids that age in at all, curious this one does.
I can find many that allow all ages. Some have age restrictions on official game drives, but those that allow you to travel in a private vehicle have no restrictions on the age of children in such a vehicle.

Okay that makes sense. But some of the lodges on there say kids 8+ only.

"The tragedy took place at Kuleni Game Park where the baby girl’s mom reportedly works as a tour guide, while her husband works locally."
