Johannesburg - Police are investigating claims that a 10-year-old Glenvista girl was bundled into the back of a police van when her mother was arrested on a fraud charge.

Ten policemen, armed to the hilt and wearing bulletproof vests, reportedly arrived at Angela Pietersen-Swart's home at about 02:30.

They bundled Sami-Jo into the police van with her mother, despite the fact that her father and brother were home at the time.

Kirk Pietersen, 25, said the police were verbally abusive.

"My little sister was so scared, she wouldn't let go of my mother. It's then that they put both of them in the back of the van.

"It wasn't necessary for 10 armed policemen to come to arrest my mother.

"When I asked them about it, they said it wasn't my business."

This grinds me on a level I can't even begin to explain! Who the H*ll do these guys think they are?! What because they were a badge and carry a gun, they can terrorise who ever they want?

No, you just need to take into account that most people on this forum are sad egotistical grammar nazis with nothing better to do than tear everyone apart.

10 armed policemen vs 1 women. Mis-management of resources to say the least.

No, in fact, if what happened in the article is true, that's terrible!

Obviously the police had a good reason why they went 'in force' to arrest the bitch. Someone close to her or herself must have been armed. We will never know. Do you know - in South Africa every other day a police man gets killed ! Also, is common practice by criminals to use their children or other 'soft targets' to protect themself. Do you know what was she involved into? The time of arrest points to 'something deeper'.

Two raids. A whole two. And you make it sound like it happens daily.

I'm very sure you wouldn't want to be around for even one police raid. And far more than two have happened. They happen every year to most places that get raided, or more. Stellenbosch was just video taped last year, the same thing happened the year before afaik.

The problem I have is people want the police to clamp down hard on these 'hellholes' and when they do, they moan that it wasn't necessary, because 'they were just students enjoying themselves', or 'people relaxing after a busy week'.

Raids? Why?

Because it is easier to raid the common South African individual, who is more or less middle class, than what it is to go and raid the real places that harbor the criminals. The same logic applies to the Metro Police, who will hide in the bush and pick on the common man in roadblocks, and turn a blind eye to the death trap speeding taxi, politician and ANC attache, or even musician (Mandoza) that breaks the traffic law.

Good point there though. I mean, speed traps and road blocks on safe stretches of road which are not knows for being accident hotspots or have not seen an accident in decades, drive me crazy. All this while the taxis jump stop streets and red traffic lights downtown  I mean, what's the point of sitting in a quiet upmarket suburb waiting for someone to jump a stop street?

Well said, the Officers in SA have become to complacent with their current activities, quite happy avoiding the real criminals and picking on the common man. Maybe it is fear of being killed in a gun fight or what have you. But than they should never have become policeman! They drive BMW's, etc. and grow fat off bribes while criminals suck SA dry!

This story is fishy

The detention of the 10 year old girl is a big No No.

Aside from the above why is every one making such a big fuss about the fact that the police were all wearing Bullet proofs?

The officers involved were most likely doing suspect raids and you usually do that in force as you never know what you are going to find.

Does anyone know what the women was wanted for, that may have also influenced the number of officers involved.

Yes Fraud, that is a heavy violent crime and generally indicates that she is armed and dangerous?

Okay I missed that.

But it was still a legal warrent for her arrest, it was proberly issued because she failed to show up in court.

The officers involved more than likely had a stack of warrents to execute and these vary from really simple to really dangerous.

We usually travel as a group and do one warrent at a time.

I think the main issue here should be the detention of her child, not the number or appearence of the officers doing the arrest.

When doing warrents you dont take chances
