gmail is fine on adsl, but on my 3g card i can surf net no problem, talk on google talk no problem, but i cannot reply to any gmail mail. also cannot compose and send attachments. can recieve mail fine.
thought it was my beta firefox im using so tried IE but still same problem.

wow yes...

whats the difference?
https content will not be cached by Vodacom's Proxy server(s), whereas http content will be cached...

Can someone write a short synopsis of what you saw (as a problem) and how the https version fixed it. Something I can pass straight to the Engineers to trace?

I don't have a Gmail account to test (awaiting flood of Gmail invites....).

Maybe ic can write us a short summary? Being the GMail evangelist and all....

An invite would be cool, if you don't mind. Then I can test with you guys.

v3g_gmail_invite_count++; :D

My suggestion to use the https GMail url, was simply a guess as to a possible workaround :). I suspected that Vodacom's Proxy servers might be unintentionally caching & messing with the unencrypted GMail content when someone uses the normal http url.

Usually a Transparent Proxy server will not attempt to cache content from an https url simply bcos it is encrypted and is essentially meanlingless from a bandwith saving POV...

Vodacom should probably look at excluding http://mail.google.com/mail/ from being cached by its Proxy Server(s). GMail uses AJAX extensively and is very economical when it comes to data transfer usage.

Well

Sometimes when you try to submit (i.e. sending) a mail it seems that the browser makes contact with the gmail site but does not return a response.

sorry for the late reply... go onto accounts on your outlook , edit the settings and under advanced tab where it says this server requires encryption connection, remove the tick box. seems it is not only VC that is having this problem
