Godongwana says SA unlikely to be sanctioned over Russia arms supply row

South African Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana said his country had resolved a row with the US over allegations that Pretoria had supplied weapons to Russia and it is unlikely to face any repercussions.

A furore erupted on 11 May, when US Ambassador to South Africa Ruben Brigety told journalists that armaments were collected by a Russian cargo ship, the Lady R, from the Simon’s Town naval base in Cape Town in December.

Odd that he should make that statemen, it's as if he already knows the cargo is dodgy.

Gonedonenada wouldn’t know anything about global economies and foreign policy if it ran over him.

(2) (A country that) does not engage in activities that undermine United States national security or foreign policy interests; and

(3) does not engage in gross violations of internationally recognised human rights or provide support for acts of international terrorism and cooperates in international efforts to eliminate human rights violations and terrorist activities.

Yeah, but their argument will be that being removed from AGOA is not actually sanctions. Mark my words.

What is or was on the ship is irrelevant to the question of what (international) laws were broken that may merit sanctions?

What was or wasn't on the ship could be the cause of breaking international laws that will result in sanctions.

There are no ports, oil or beaches in Pretoria.

Please leave us out of this.

Absolutely, and it will give them an opportunity to rail against the West and their evil imperialistic ways, and look how they're trying to re-conquer Africa by making all the Africans suffer and and and.

Just answer the damned question!!!
No one can say what was on the boat cause we won't be allowed to know the cargo for sure.
