Good luck getting all the quotes. It's a fun exercise and mind game. And getting opinions are free.
If I could change anything on my install it would have been to not ordering the RIOT cloudlink, and also using the trunking I had in mind and not the galvanized trunking that my installer used.

Also, I would have perhaps drawn up a sketch of how the components should be installed on the wall. To make it look more professional. There are some okes installs that look unreal. Except for that, I am happy.

What trunking?

Apologies IF inadvertently derailing or hijacking

I have:

1 x 8Kw sunsynk inverter. Figured I could add another IF required. Unlikely but still need to assess more accurate overall usage pm.

Only 2 x 3.5 US3000 pylontechs. The 0.5C unfortunately. Will add or replace in future.

Required:
I need panels. Last quote was:
JA Solar 455w x 18 for just under R81 000

I have been pondering:

PV panels vs converting 2 of 3 geysers to start savings since my current set up takes care of loadshedding.

I also want a hybrid solar gas geysers installation. I think @Sinbad had this at his parents place.

Advantage is that in winter, if no solar power, the gas heats up the water temperature difference.

Not sure why, but it could only be done with a solar geyser setup and not normal geyser setup.

My preference:

PV panels plus gas backup for geyser.

Another link.

My stove already gas. Planning to get gas oven as well BUT as backup. Currently electric double thermofan a heavily used item for baking etc.

Have an induction plate BUT lot of non inductive cookware, so not a great option.

So my decision is:

1. Install just pv panels R80 000

2. Install solar / gas geysers R60 000 for 2 of 3 geysers

3. Install a full pv panel plus gas backup for geysers. R80 000 plus cost of gas geyser backup.

Thanks

You are being screwed dude, I got quoted 3k each for the 540w panels, they have invested HEAVILY in lube stocks quoting 4.5 for a 455.

4.5 was literally the most expensive price I found for the 540w

Yeah, someone is trying to scam him, unless the price includes installation?

Not necessarily.

Rand went down, pricing has gone up.
My suppliers are far north of R5/w, closer to R6/w

Wholesale pricing is up about 10% since late Nov for panels.

Best bang for buck at the moment are the 395w JA Solar. No point paying a premium for >540w panels if you have roof space.

My quote was Thursday, R3k, well R2539.12 to be exact per panel, which is under R5/w, he is being quoted almost R10/w.

I don’t see how paying half the price is a “premium” he could get less panels or just 18 X 540 and save a bundle.

Ok, thats fair if thats the pricing he's been quoted, that is a rip off.

Pricing has gone up about 10% though over the last 2 months.

My pricing on those at Segen is roughly 3100 incl. vat a panel now.

Which is why I’m doing it now instead of later in the year when I have my own money to use as apposed to the banks, between the likely increases in cost as well as the increase in electricity, I’ll probably still be ahead paying a bit of interest over waiting 6-8 months.

I contacted another company for the price on the 540 and they came back saying none of that but they can offer their own brand 590w at 6k each… like erm no thanks.

Can PM me if you need panels. 540w is the highest i can get at the moment, eg the JAM72S-30-540-MR

Those are what I was quoted for, just the paperwork and those will be installed. Inverter and batter hoped goes up this week though.

Ordered those in November and the battery finally arrived Monday.

You guys are talking big money, so probably the wrong place to ask, but those 150l Geyserwise Kits, are they any good? My budget is bit tighter than the rest of you okes.
I see they got a big price hike. Last year they were going for about R13k, now they're between R15k and R18k. Eskom price hike probably driving the price.

No inverter, you replace the element with a DC element and provide 3 dedicated panels to run it.
This.

We have gone solar for the house but the geyser has a gesyerwise system with it's own dc element, controller and panels.

It has a eskom ac backup as well.

Panels which is outdated price is 18 x 455W JA Solar R39 715
Renusole fittings brackets etc R6755
Cable strings R1059.80
Sundries R750
Combiner boxes R3665
Installation and commissioning R13 000
Travelling delivery etc remainder of cost

These are quite old prices. So guess add 10%.

I am not asking about price.

The 3 options are my issue.

Thanks
