I did some research apparently it was the 2.0TDI from the 2008 until 2012 that had the timing chain issue.

But if this needs the timing chain that then not so worried I have a guy.
The 2.0 tdi motors were horrible, I know a friend who had one of those and had endless problems. Now the 1.9 tdi was a beauty

Those that are saying dont get an Audi, any reason why? Horror stories? I am actually looking at an Audi at the moment but its no hot hatch its more an everyday A6 3.0TDI V6, full dealer service history, 120 000km on the clock.
I bought my facelift A7 3.0 TDI a year ago. Same car with a slightly different body :)

Is the Freeway plan still active on yours?

Neither, anything from VAG is kuk.
You need a valid drivers license to participate in this thread ;) besides the hijack risk any VW group car is great value for money

My money is on the R but I would get a full system exhaust and I recommend the IPE system

Next year? It's only Feb?
Ya - I am early to the party.

S3 at 850k or Golf R at 750k - would need to save 100k on top of what I planned for if I went the route of an S3.

Buying a house, getting married (COVID allowing) etc means I'd rather be prepped early in terms of finances as there is a lot of outlay expected over the next 10 months.

My old 2007 2.0TDI Audi did well over 350 000KM before I gave sold it to a relative, still going, still no troubles and must surely be well over 400 000KM by now.

All it ever got where new Inner and Outer CV's, A new Turbo at around 200 000KM, shocks, bushes and the usual suspension parts.

Oh and like all VAG products, a new head liner

It has just came off warranty at 120 000Km - as per the print out the last service was done on the 29 January 2021. The dealer is offering me an extended warranty at a cost of course.

I am interested in hearing about your ownership of the car
Issues? Dislikes?
Likes?
I test drove the car on Auto setting ( efficiency, auto, dynamic, individual) it felt underpowered, read up afterwards that if in auto and city driving the car will go to efficiency and reduce power, have you noticed this?

Not Really
I traded in my E46 320i for the Golf 7 Gti - where I am going with this story, I looked at BMW
To spec out a newer model 320i to what i would need was touching the R700k mark, I got a 7GTI which I paid R432 000.00 in 2013, got more than I was getting with the BMW, heated seats, active high beam assist, sunroof the works except Satnav which lets be honest you better off using google maps.

There is nothing wrong with either of those engines, except the cost of some replacement parts like PD injectors  Your friend must have got a dud 2.0 TDi as they are also generally bomb proof.

What was up with the head liner? Did the car stand outside in the sun a lot? I have never, ever had a head liner fail in any of my VAG cars, including my 1982 VW Golf GLS which despite it's age is still looking pretty good.
