Well, I got a GeForce FX 5200 at current. I'm thinking about the option of upgrading.

Firstly, I'll like to know what cards are recommended.. for someone on a lowish budget. We got the GeForce FX 5200 for about R400 quite awhile back. Atleast 1-2 years back. Is there anything nice for about the same pricing? Or are the only good card in the higher up numbers?

Best budget card at the moment is a 6600GT for R800-R1000. Anything less would be a waste of time for games to come in the next year or so.

This is what you are looking at more or less .... I would say save a bit more and buy either a ATI x-series card or Geforce 7 series card....

GEFORCE FX5500 256MB +-R450
RADEON 9250 256MB 128-BIT DDR +-R450
GEFORCE 6600LE 256MB +-R650
RADEON 9550 256MB +-R600
X1300 256MB +-R850

I mainly want a decent card to play games like Guild Wars, or Half-Life 2 with.

Thank You all for the advise, and the prices. So I'm taking it the one to aim for would be something like a GeForces 6600GT?

i jumped from a fx5200 to a 6600GT Gainward GS and have been very happy. I was told i would never be able to play fear, quake 4 ect - but i actually managed them all fine and it was/is still great.

dunno how much they cost now but it is worth the additional cash

If you want a card that's future proof - at least for the next year or so - a 6600GT is probably too low spec.

Rather save some more cash and wait for the Christmas hardware releases - this drives down the price of the existing generation of cards.
There are a few excellent cards that can be had for between R1500 and R2000.

I am still happy with my 6600GT. Too expensive to upgrade. Read in PC Format that 7600GT will be best bargain card ever by about December. Probably still too much for your budget though.

ive got a 7600gt biostar

not as great as i thought it would be

cant play bf 2 high with 4 x AA but then again bf 2 is a bit of a card killer when AA is put on

but i play fine everything medium with 4 x AA

to be honest this card doesnt seem much better than my old 6600gt

i could play everything medium with 4 x AA lol exactly what im doing now

and no it isnt because its a biostar make :)

Now that is good news :)
I am just hoping that no card killer comes out that I have to have!
Something like an RPG version of Starcraft with FPS gameplay that is better than Counterstrike with a bit of a Max Payne feel. :)

I would get it shipped so I could get it sooner than the SA release. :)
As long as the bullet-time is like Max Payne I, I wasn't too thrilled with it in II.
Let's start a petition!

No MP 3 on the cards, which is sad, but from what I understand "Alan Wake" is suppossed to be a spiritual successor to Max Payne.

If you enjoyed the action in MP then "John Woo's Stranglehold" also looks to be awesome.

Cool, I'll definitely look into it, thanks.:)
I can't stand John Woo's movies but for the same reason I hate his movies(Slow motion and excruciatingly obvious directing) I could love a game with his influence.
