Deadlier coronavirus variant in South Africa — what you should know

South Africa's acting Minister of Health, Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane, confirmed in a media briefing today that the Delta variant of the coronavirus has become dominant in Gauteng.

The Delta variant was first detected in India and quickly overwhelmed the country's healthcare system.

It was therefore concerning when South African scientists discovered that the Delta variant had swept South Africa.

This is because the Delta variant is more transmissible than the Beta variant, meaning it is more infectious and spreads faster.

I would NEVER have expected someone with a name like Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane would look like this…

Yet people are still allowed to leave Gauteng, only to spread it to the rest of the country.

Who said it's deadlier than the beta variant?

I've heard that it's less deadly but more transmissible.
Slight modification in the receptor binding domain causing Delta's R-naught to be higher than Beta. Faster viral replication, faster symptom onset and potentially higher hospitalisation death rate.

Edit:

Further edit for those interested in Ivermectin: With this increased replication rate, something like Ivermectin actively occupies those ACE2 receptor sites, preventing the virus from latching onto them. This is why Ivermectin has shown to be so effective for treatment. There was a Meta Analysis released last week which suggests that a regular, low prophylactic dose of Ivermectin can reduce the chances of contracting of covid by up to 86%, as well as help to reduce the replication rate if you're already sick.

Don't worry, that would have been more normal than the qualification of this "Minister of Health"

"She matriculated from Thusa-Setjhaba Secondary School in 1997 as the school's top achiever and subsequently became involved in student politics. She attended the Vista University's Soweto campus and graduated with a BA Degree in Psychology and Sociology in 2000. She achieved a Project Management Diploma from Damelin in 2002."

Now isn't that a good list of qualifications when it comes to being a Minister of Health ?

ps. It looks like since Zuma years she's been a Minister of almost every department at some point, talk about over qualified. /sarcasm

I wouldn't take tooth brushing advice from someone as ill qualified, simply ridiculous how every single Minister of Whatever position seems to be filled by someone who is likely not even qualified to Manage a McDonalds branch.

Deadlier compared to what?
The Beta, it's like they keep forgetting the more people it hits the more likely there will be more deaths, like duh see what happened from 1st to 2nd and so on.
Though people love to look at the numbers, claiming things like record high days and such.

Take a leaf out of Australia’s book and forbid travel whether local or international. And no interprovincial travel. These idiots will find a way of getting around the country

So she had to be given health to add to her list of ministries. They just get shunted from one department to another. Talk about cadre deployment
