So what will be a good price to pay on such a car,
it has 56 000km, black on red, saw the car and it has had no accidents what so ever. Warranty up to August 2009, service plan of 5yrs/100 000km.

Trade on the car is R214 000
Retail: R245 000

At the current market, I wouldn't pay anything more than 200k. Remember this car is more than 10 years old. The car came out before the 350Z in 1999, and the 370Z is already out.

I'll take it for R195k....

EDIT: Saw it red had interior - do not want.

BTW - these are stunning toys, with you little bit of a modification - you won't want to let go - just came back from a day of just driving, fitted a new exhaust, it felt like I had a mini-Ferrari.

when did the first models arrive in SA???? was it not 2004? ... i was led to believe they pretty popular cars ... a cult following ... and see them retailing for R220 plus, i thought R210k for an 06 that was not wrecked AT all is a pretty decent price ... but i have had no experience with an S2k

Nope - they had a reasonable change in shape in 2004 (most people can't tell the difference), after that more subtle changes have happened, also, from 2004 they started adding safety features such as stability control, etc... I think 2006 added Drive-by-wire - quite a few of the cult following don't like these changes, thats why pre-2004 are still popular, and priced almost the same as 2004.

I have a 2000 - so they've been around since the beginning in SA - although I've only seen about three or four pre-2004.

I would probably pay R210,000 for a 2006 in good nick - I just don't like the red interior, which seems to be popular - after seeing quite a few in person, white with black interior (rare), is my favourite. We actually had a small meet yesterday, mostly JDM cars - but there were three S2000's.

According to Honda, they haven't had a single S2000 engine failure, so even if it has been driven like it was built to be driven, you don't have to worry to much.

Only things you should have checked are the diff and clutch (which shouldn't be a problem post 2004) - these were the initial points of failure.

They're really fun to drive once you own one, they're a bit of a let down away from the coast though without FI.

Some guy actually chased me down today in a merc today - I couldn't go anywhere cause the engine was still cold, so no VTEC - pulled over expecting some grief, all he wanted to do was ask about the exhaust (I fitted last week) - sounds amazing, and I was running without silencers for the weekend...

Its amazing what you can do to these cars with a little $$$ - there are guys getting over 700kw from the 2L engine up in Jhb, 0-100 in the mid 4s.

I've been asked to make a vid of my current setup for youtube - I'll post it here when I do it - cheapest alternative to a mini-Ferrari.

define:FI please

Also tell us about your exhaust please.

Forced Induction. Turbo charger/Super charger.

Its a Skunk2 Mega Power Exhaust, there's actually an audio clip on their site, but it doesn't do it justice.

I just dropped off my S2000 to have the wheels repaired this morning, heat from the brakes is chipping the polish on the mags, and peeling off the enamel on the brake calipers... hate leaving my car with strangers :(

Do you still have the stock head unit/radio in your car rapid?

From the ones I have looked at, it looks like a normal radio, but I bet the satellite controls make it a lot more tricky to replace.

Also considering an s2000 in the fairly distant future. I would need an AP2 as I think the handling changes are pretty important. Currently I have an MR2. I have never seen an s2000 with a red interior IRL. I think I might like it...but I like the grand prix white paint colour...

Edit:did you import and install the exhaust system yourself?

Yeh - stock head unit, for the audio controls on the dash, Sherwood amp with Infinity splits - and a Sony MP3 CD-Shuttle in the boot, with audio controls next to gear stick.

I'm thinking of replacing the stock radio soon though - its apparently quite easy to replace, and you get an adapter for the dash controls.

Quite a few people don't like the safety features, me included.

The majority of S2000 I've seen have red interior, do not want. The white is my favourite colour though.

Exhaust was installed by Hi-Q, bought it second hand from a guy parting his S2000 off in Johannesburg.

Most of the other stuff I've imported myself, but will most probably go through www.jdmtuner.co.za in the future.
