Anyone remember The Tropicana in Durban? That was such a cool restaurant. Their roadhouse was served by woman on rollerskates - awseomness.

Definitely not in Jhb. You cannot venture far out of Fordsburg if halaal is what you want.

My new fave restuarant is Cilantros (spelling) in Parkmore or parktown.. whereever.. close to George's on fourth.. they make the best duck I have ever had.. Duck confit... then I also like Yamoto.. they make a really good Suki Yaki and serve their Sake in Masu.. one or two masu sakes and your babooned!!

I also just remembered Gino's in Rossettenville and Calisto's in Turfontein.

Anybody know if Gino's is still open? Their branch in Alberton closed down.

Do give it a try. It is a classy restaurant in the old fashioned tradition of service and manners etc, but they prepare some amazing fusion dishes!

I second Havanna and Coachman's Inn - excellent choices.

For everyday lunches - I just love my local Adega restaurant. They know me so well by now - I just call an hour in advance and my king prawns are prepared, casal garcia (portuguese wine) is chilled and ready for me to pop by and enjoy.
