Believe it or not, but I really did get good service...

My ADSL has been running at a snr 15.5/36db att, it dropped suddenley to 11/44 and I started losing packets.

anyhow, fajulted the line and the tech came out, I walked with him and he punched in his ADSL test kit at the Local, DP and SDC testing SNR and attenuation, anyways' he repatched the jumpers and got my signal to 13.5/44 which means my line is syncing and running at 4096 without packet loss anymore.

Goes to show, there are still a copule of good staff at Telkom.

I must say that generally I find the Telkom people "on the ground" seem to do their utmost to be helpful. Its the "untouchable" call center folks who couldn't care either way. But then I think telskom whole infrastructure is geared toward profit and not service.

I must agree the techies are much friendlier and nicer than the call center operators will ever be. If you know a techie personally then you are one lucky guy as they will probably go the extra mile in trying to help you :D

I also have to put down my name of one that experienced very good service and call backs and timely response. Only problem was that I had to wait 10 minutes for a call to be answered.

Was it just faulty jumpers that caused it? How come your SNR just dropped like that? Im also having the same problem, SNR was 13, dropped to 6 earlier :( router still synching at 4096. How would i tell if it is having synching problems? I use bridge mode and my connection are usually 24hours until the reset? Or could it explain the terrible speeds im getting at the moment?

Well just answered my question how my line can be stable with low SNR:

"- Routers are known to provide a more stable connection than usb modems and the purchase of an adsl router has done the trick for some.
The Netgear DG834, Westell 6100 and D-Link DSL-G604T are some routers that have been known to maintain a more stable connection on a low SNR line.

~ The Netgear DG834 and DG834G have a very good reputation for being able to hold on to a connection at low SNR. I personally have seen one hang on to a line that frequently drops to 0dB (and below). Other users of the DG834G have reported similar.
~ The D-Link DSL-G604T has also been reported* to successfully stabilise a low SNR line which was about to be declared as incapable of supporting adsl. "

I have the d-link

I'd worry a bit about an article claiming SNR below 0db, as 0db means that there is no distinction between single and noise. one cannot go 'below' this value!
