Good spot in North/West Joburg for sunset pics?

The sunsets in Jozi these days are just fantastic, but I can't get a good shot from my home.... buildings always in the way. Does anyone have suggestions for good spots for sunset shots in the Randburg area? I've seen Northcliff Hill mentioned before but I'm not sure how to get there, and it's a little far from where I live (Robindale)... by the time I can see that the sunset looks to have potential, I may not have enough time to get there.

Any ideas?

Been thinking about this. The problem with a sunset is that it's normally pretty boring if the sun is the main subject. So if you have something interesting in the foreground or perhaps on the horizon this may help.

Around a big city perhaps think about including landmarks in the sunset.

Just a thought.

What Hilton was saying:

No point of interest other than the sun:

Clouds as a point of interest:

Voortrekker Monument/Iscor HQ as secondary point of interest:

(Venue Klapperkop, Pretoria. Note that you need pretty long focal lengths too.)

Sandton city roof parking was pretty decent

I went there today... first problem is that the roof parking is now a construction site, but even if it weren't... there are buildings in the way.

What is the road that goes up to the koppie?

Dude, it has been yeeeeeeears since I've been up there. I think the road we went up was Lucky Avenue but I'm not 100% certain on that. You might want to check with somebody who lives in the area or in a map book though.

if you feel like paying you could try the balloon at Montecasino, that should give you an awesome view :)

It's only about 7km! You're not going to find many places closer.

Delta Park perhaps - on the principle of finding somewhere with lots of open ground, rather than finding somewhere high. The east side of Delta Park must have some views.

Ja, I thought of that... there's one in Sandton somewhere as well, isn't there? Only thing is, you can't know ahead of time whether the sunset will be any good.
