RIP Internet Explorer — and good riddance

Microsoft has started rolling out an update to Windows 10 that entirely disables Internet Explorer, signalling the final death knell for the nearly 28-year-old browser.

In a recent amendment to a Windows IT Pro blog post, the company explained that it had already permanently disabled the retired and out-of-support Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) desktop app through an Edge update on most Windows 10 versions.

So long old friend! Internet Explorer is officially dead and the internet is having a field day – Supercar Blondie

How will new win installations download a proper browser now?

If you are still using Chrome over Edge, then there is something wrong with you. Chrome is the worst, memory blackhole
Firefox isnt that bad, but Edge is better.......Like just try it youll be surprised

Why do they have to force disable it? Seems a bit heavy handed.

Probably due to support and security reasons. If they left it accessible to users and did not provide patches going forward then it would be a massive security issue for users down the road.

Good riddance indeed... for the greatest symbol of IT imperialism in history.

Edge sucks in it's own ways. Don't like it at all.

I have so much memory I don't notice the Chrome problems you speak of. Tried Edge, but no thanks.

If you use the Google ecosystem often. Docs, sheets, presentations, mail, calender and video calling. Stick to chrome.

If you want extra privacy (away from Google basically) hit up Firefox.

They are so close these days. It's literally the icon, and who you want to give your data to.

What do I use? Brave and Safari, but I test in Firefox regularly.

If I had to recommend a browser to my family? Safari :)

Only competition for Chrome from a web engine side is Firefox. All the rest are just copies of Chrome now.
