Google rolls out Android digital car key

Google is rolling out its digital car key feature to the Google Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, and the Samsung Galaxy S21, though it is currently limited to compatible BMWs.

The company announced several new features and improvements on Android 12, with an update rolling out on Google Pixel devices and the Samsung Galaxy S21.

No availability estimations, no insights as to what it actually does - but at least I learned about family bell and the fact that I can search faster. Maybe.

iPhones can already do this

Very strange not to mention the main competitor by @Jan

Going through your link:

If your iPhone needs to be charged

Depending on the model of your iPhone, you can use your car key even after your iPhone battery runs out.
Which links to:

Power Reserve with Express Mode

You might be able to use Express Mode on your iPhone, even when your device needs to be charged. With compatible iPhone models, you might be able to use power reserve with transit or payment cards, some passes, student IDs, and car keys that have Express Mode turned on for up to five hours when your iPhone needs to be charged.

To see the cards, passes, and keys available for use with power reserve, press the side button. However, pressing the side button often might significantly reduce the power reserve. If you power off your iPhone, this feature won’t be available.

Can't find anything if Android has the same. In order to have the same mode, has to be baked into Android or by OEM, and like disqus comments say, what happens if Android support dropped, e.g. you're running too old version of Android or something. Tesla unlock is pure app based AFAIK (at least I unlocked it via app with car sharing).

Tbh, I'd be happier if they design a car key fob that's a wristband, e.g. Jaguar's F-Pace Activity Key.
