Google Pixel 6 and eSIM in South Africa

I got it through Amazon at the end of last year. It was about about R12,200 all in and a very easy process. I'm really enjoying it, even though not all features are active in South Africa.

She then activated it and sent me a QR code....I left and scanned the code when I got home. I got the error message per picture below.

I called MTN, turns out the lady simply resent my old QR code with the EID on the eSIM on the iphone. MTN contact centre said she had to do an eSIM swap and they couldn't help me.

So I scanned the code on my iphone and my number works again.

Did you come right with this?

Got a Pixel7, MTN sent me a QR code, Ive added it, it detected the MTN e-sim and downloaded, however thereafter I keep getting a sim not provisioned error.

No, I gave up on MTN and use a physical sim. I only use Vodacom and Telkom esims on my pixel.

Update

Eventually got an eSim for my Pixel 7 from MTN

MTN refused to acknowledge it will work on a pixel, insisted it's for IPhone and Samsung only, eventually I told them I got a S22, and sent them all my Pixel details (IMEI EID etc)

They then activated it on their end, and said it will automatically download (from my testing this works on a Samsung i.e downloads the eSim but not on a Pixel). Had to request a QR code, they did a simswop, and provided the QR code.

This didn't active initially, got a sim not provisioned error, but after a few hours, I restarted and it worked!
 
Odd to come across this as we are experiencing the exact same issue with AirMobile/Afrihost (MTN) eSim on our Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro's.....

One of them totally refuses to add the eSim the second, add's the sim and fails to provision it entirely.

I signed up for AirMobile as well today, with a Pixel 8 Pro. No error messages (I do get a message saying restart phone all the time), but nothing is working yet (calls/data).

I am hoping it is just a matter of time... If anyone has success please post here.

Same issue's here, I have been chatting with @Afrigirl all day trying to sort it out.

Please kindly check the apn is set to the following.

ws.air.mvno

If not , add a new apn, input the above , give it a name , leave the rest as default. Make sure to select the newly created apn profile. For safe measure , reboot and report back.

That message will keep popping up. It won't go away. Somehow these mvnos have settings that don't play nice with the pixel phones.

Must be something up with Pixel's. Going to move to physical sims for now then Ill sign up for a new number to test the eSims down the line again.

Is it not because technically esims are for South African approved device
 
Looking to get a new Pixel. Last time I had a google phone it was a Nexus 4.

What is the best way to get them in RSA at the moment? I see on Amazon they are quite reasonably priced.

We got a good deal on BF. So yep, Amazon was easiest and best priced.
