Competition Commission orders Google and Apple App Store changes in South Africa

Google Play and Apple App Store are unconstrained in the commission fees they charge app developers, and they limit competition, South Africa’s Competition Commission has found.

To address this market distortion, the commission has ordered Apple and Google to implement several changes in their app stores for mobile devices.

Somewhere in Mountain View and cupertino people now need to waste their time to search what the hell an ananzi is.

Did the Competition Commission just suddenly get their internet connection working again today and all the emails sitting in their Outbox finally actually went out?

This is the 3rd decision from them today.
Does your count also include their decision from this afternoon on taking Googles search engine to task and forcing them to promote local sites and BBE?
Lmfao.

I would love to know from the legal peeps what the result would be if and when Google and Apple just don't do anything. Are the ANC employees going to have a fit until they do something? I mean, good luck trying to "block" them from operating in SA.

We wish.
They will comply. Money talks I'm affraid....
Thing is they don't have to do anything really.. So long as they don't have specific requirements for SA apps and blocking additional payment methods, none of the big international apps will change their app for our specific market...

There are ticks in the Arctic frozen in ice with a higher IQ than the South Africa Competition Commission.
