Google removes “Don’t be evil”

Google has removed its unofficial slogan “Don’t be evil” from its code of conduct which it distributes to employees.

Google’s “Don’t be evil” motto has been with the company since around 2000.

dont be evil is quite open ended, company worried it could cause ripple effects.

one could apply it to many things google is now part of,

things like mass surveillance, and releasing of search results of Tibetans

The old motto became a lie a long time ago. The new one is handily ambiguous - Do the right thing for whom? Google, or the User.....? It's not hard to guess which one it will be.

You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain..

And remember… don’t be evil, and if you see something that you think isn’t right – speak up!

Unless of course if it means speaking up against the racist and sexist management practices....
