Google SA plans big broadband drive

'companies should not bet against the internet' - the only company i know about who bets against the internet is indeed Telkom...

Why would the SA government listen to a multi-billion dollar company that's predominantly white? These guys didn't do their homework, did they?

Oh goodness me. Our country enforces such ridiculous BBBEE standards that stifle our countries growth, and now they probably gonna say that other countries that want to do something in our Country have to comply to.

Thats so not cool. But prob true TOW...:mad:

Well, Google's slogan used to be "Don't be evil!"...

But they've slowly but surely become just another big corporation.

Stafford Masie, country manager for Google SA is a local boy having spent
many years at Telkom looking after the good old Novell systems, then he
joined Novell SA as their country manager before moving onto Google SA.

Yes, the 5 black employees that they have here doesn't quite make up for ALL the major shareholders and decision-makers being pasty-skinned nerds... :D

Google shareholders have little say in the running and the goals of the company as they like many private companies have two classes of stock i.e so called "founders" and "normal" which are traded on the markets.

The bulk of the "founders" stock is controlled by Brin and Page.

Another example would be the Ford family who runs the Ford motor company with only a minute shareholding.

I have to say that was one long advertising session (atleast it was free) :p

I also think these guys are a bit optimistic to expect to have an intelligent conversation with the DOC. :D

They are only opening a sales office and understandably the function was to garner stake-holder interest for clients but are there any functions with a more developer-centric focus? I got wind of a 27th Dinners function.

Their palms have been sufficiently laden with monies, they cannot help but listen while they stuff it away for later date...
