Oh goody!

I like the fact that Google is doing this in the face of the large volume of ad spend that eBay is bringing to it...

Gives me some faith in Google' motto - Don't be evil!

Nice!

When paypal was available to us it cost nothing to buy items
from paypal registered sellers : (seller paid about 2.5%)

Here is are two recent transactions in process :

Purchase 1. --->> $100.35
Purchase 2. --->> $438.50

Money can only be sent by wire transfer bank to bank.

So far it has taken 6 days for money to be SENT.
(waiting for time it will take for money to be received by seller)

Purchase 1. Local Bank charges amounted to 31% of purchase cost.
Purchase 2. Local Bank charges amounted to 9% of purchase cost.

I will update additional costs and times as they occur until the goods arrive.

World players - what a joke.

Muller says this would have a significant impact on South African consumers, as they would be able to buy online from sites that previously only accepted PayPal.

Within reason - there's still the issue of shipping, specifically of electronic items.
Very few overseas ecommerce sites will ship anything other than CD's, books and clothes to international destinations.

What we really need over here is an Amazon South Africa, but I dought if our market is even close to big enough for that.

Why not - the local market is big enough to support www.kalahari.net? And the market will only get bigger as more SAns get on broadband (especially if SNO actually competes). OK, the market here may be too small to be attractive to Amazon - that's another thing - but that's fine, it's allowed locals to build things like kalahari.net, which keeps more of the profits in ZA.

Well, in spite of instructing my bank in bold blue letters to deliver
to the seller the NETT transaction amount AFTER all costs, they
SHORT paid by $22.00 (obviously their partner bank costs in US)

The cost of Purchase 2. has now risen to 13.9%

The seller of the goods is not happy and like others will just
EXCLUDE south africans from buying again - too troublesome.

NOTE : When I had PAYPAL my cost was ZERO and payment in 10 seconds.

yeah it is supported, they started incluing our country on the country list, but not with account details, just with card numbers only for now, so you type in your credit or debit card details and bam, of course that support doesnt include getting money, only sending

FNB partner bank in US (JP Morgan) have now agreed to refund their $22.00 amount they short-paid to the seller !!.

I have asked FNB for a reduction on their costs of transfer.

Neither of the orders have arrived, but both have been tracked as leaving US.

Parcel 2 is still stuck somewhere within the local postal system.

I have been told that it arrived in ZA on 10th July, but due to
the fact that the PO trahk and trayce system has been down for over
a week now, my parcel cannot be found yet.

PO believes that the downed server might cum up again 2day.
