well they dont do with Apple Pay/Wallet so not sure why they would now, but will keep an eye on it, also collecting funds at a later date is not ideal, if youre not sure you will be recover the cost at a later time
Those fees relate to overseas based merchants who are settled in foreign currency.

In this case Apple/Google are acting on behalf of the issuer and the merchant is local and settled in ZAR...

The article is strong on the "getting rid of cash" point but I fail to see any connection.
I also still need to carry around a wallet with ID and licenses so why would I want to show everyone what phone I have instead of just using my card (which never runs out of battery power).

I don't get it.

They know their clients dont have NFC phones
You obviously love under a rock. Capitec is one of the largest consumer banks in SA with Tyme bank following closely, Google need to seriously look at their listings and add all banks to accommodate the "masses"
I'm a business owner and like myself I know many more who use these banks and I can probably bet you that my domestic and tea lady have a better phone than you

I'm an Apple Pay user but same principle. I never use it on the phone because taking the phone out vs taking the card out is same difference.

On the watch however, it's a game changer.

And then there's the odd occasion where you have to nip down to the garage store for a pie and Cornetto at 23h47 on Sunday night, but the elastic on your tracksuit pants is only strong enough to hold them up if you have either your phone or your wallet, but not both.

In other countries you don't need to carry ID and licenses around. So it makes a nice difference there.

I rarely use my card now that I have Apple pay on my watch. The only places where I need to use the actual original card are:
- some online bookings, such as hotels, since you often have to "bring the card along" (this is more a virtual card vs. actual card type of problem though)
- in drive-throughs. My watch is on my left hand, so reaching over and touching the (usually mounted) card reader with my watch is a bit of a pain. I could use my phone but as somebody said, then it is about the same amount of trouble (getting it out) as the actual card, and my phone is usually also plugged in.

I mean FNB used to absorb the costs of paying for spotify, and then they backtracked,
so I wouldn't discount them adding a little extra for themselves, I mean that's after all their entire business strategy, salami slice from thousands,
due to the convenience of it, vs Cash.

Added FNB & Discovery virtual cards on Xiaomi Redmi note 9T. I tested and it's working. Now expecting to receive some 1000 ebucks from FNB google pay campaign. Google pay is easier than FNB Pay but not better than apple pay via watch.

Didnt check if google pay can work without mobile data? Someone can verify that.

can someone try it with their mobile data/wifi switched off, I have always wondered if it would work,as most of you know when going to the mall, etc..cell reception(data connection) is almost nonexistent. Samsung Pay and Apple Pay people please let me know as well.
