Gordhan is vindicating the law by ignoring police unit

When an elite crime-fighting unit investigates a member of Cabinet, what does the rule of law require? In South Africa the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (the Hawks) have been circling finance minister Pravin Gordhan.

Are the Hawks really an elite crime-fighting unit ?

They seem to behave more like an underhand politically controlled group of gangsters.

Simple folks, if he has done a crime, charge him and let a court of law decide, otherwise back off. Sending a letter requesting presence is a joke. Also the delay regarding charges leaves Pravin fully justified in getting an interdict for harassment if it continues.

For me, the problem is the Hawks have been shown up now a few times as having a rather poor understanding of the Laws they claim to be prosecuting under.

So They therefore leave themselves open to criticism when trying to handle a case where even their jurisdiction is under question.

The suspicions that the whole matter is politically motivated will continue while political figures involve themselves in the process.

The Hawks is not an elite unit at all. They work directly for the president and for the biggest part ensure that his opponents are dealt with as and when needed.
