Gordhan slams De Ruyter as "know-all" with "pitiful" excuses

Public enterprises minister Pravin Gordhan has lambasted former Eskom CEO André de Ruyter over his excuses for failing to improve power station performance, reduce load-shedding, and tackle corruption at the utility.

Gordhan was called to appear before Parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) on Wednesday following De Ruyter's allegations that he had raised the involvement of senior politicians in corruption at Eskom with the minister.

Deny Deny Deny... That's all the cANCer can do... It's never them, its always somebody else... The proof is in the pudding. You and your kadre deployment is biggest problem for this country...

“If you are in charge, the buck stops with you. If you are in charge, you must show a sense of responsibility; and if you haven’t accomplished your mission, you must show a sense of remorse.”

All I hear is projection

“I think what we had was a CEO who thought he was a ‘know-all,’ and he certainly hadn’t worked in a power station before.”
Gordhan acknowledged he had not been shy to ask “tough questions” about why certain things at Eskom don’t work
"There is a clause in his contract that he signed when he was employed as CEO which requires confidentiality in terms of the institution"

So in other words, he wasn't a crony.

"Was he recording every conversation that he had with everybody?"
A man can dream.

The lack of self awareness from a public point-of-view here is unbelievable.
Almost every comment from Gordhan here makes De Ruyter sound better than I assumed.

"Gordhan also said that he only knew about De Ruyter appointing the George Fivaz Forensic and Risk team to investigate crimes related to coal power stations in Mpumalanga six months after the probe was launched."
"the private investigation, which was reportedly funded with roughly R50 million in private money from businesses"
He merely in passing… said I am doing this because the law enforcement guys are not coming to the party.

Could we not do pics trying to turn him into "Dark" Pravin.

Christ, already sounds like a sith.

Gordhan is really laying it on thick to protect himself and the ANC. We all know why ADR acted the way he did: because he had no support from government. Now Gordhan is attacking ADR for things he should have supported him on...

Did Gordhan say that ADR was a white male that thought he knows everything and didn't want to be managed by people of color that knew more than him about Eskom because they had more experience? Can't be, that type of thing is not possible in this country :)
Here let me help you.

There you go.
How's that guilt doing... better now?

It was amusing to watch Pravins jabs, one was something along the lines of that AdR should have been working instead of writing a book.

It was a near on impossible job but, AdR never said anything about any parts of the job not being within his control. At least not until the end. So, it's right to blame him.

In reality, to improve station performance and fight corruption requires a heavy hand when it comes to firing and hiring. He was saddled with useless station managers and deep rooted corruption that could only be resolved by wholesale cancellation of contracts and revetting everyone. He never said but I think the government wouldn't have allowed him such a free hand.
