Got my Telkom username and temp password - now what?

UPDATE: My TI is working, but only getting 1.7mbps on a 4mbps line?

So my family has finally taken the plunge: went to the local Telkom Shop today and signed up for 2mbps uncapped (soon to be automatically upgraded to 4mbps if it hasn't been upgraded already, according to the sales rep)

We've already been with MWeb on an 8gig cap and we pay Telkom separately for the 2mbps line.

We received the SMS with our "access username", "email login", "temporary password" and "email address".

I've already tried to change the settings on our modem, by putting in the username (g*****@telkomsa.net) and the password (which is a random bunch of letters, numbers and symbols). No go: when testing the settings, it won't connect.

So I'm a bit stumped as to where we go now. I've just tried using the username and password on the TI Tracker and it doesn't pick up the details there. What do I do to get this show on the road? Should I just give 10210 a call?

EDIT: Finally got access to the TI service sorted out this morning. Consultant confirmed to me that my service was already a 4mbps speeds. But an SAIX Speedtest ( Telkom ADSL Speedtest.jpg ) reveals that my speeds aren't up to scratch quite yet. How do I solve this?

Are you sure you are not confusing big and small O's in the password :p

Just kidding. Anyway, it is possible that your account has not been activated yet. Does the guest account work for you?
USER: guest@telkomsa.net
PASS: guest

Once you have put those details in, you should be able to access telkomsa.net and telkom.co.za

We've paid for our existing 2mbps line through Telkom and MWeb for our 8gb cap. So this has just been a transfer to Telkom. The line already exists under the current account - all we've done is move our data services to Telkom.

Using the guest account, I can access telkom.co.za. But the username and password in the SMS still don't work.

Try to switch of your router and unplug power from the router for 30 minutes and then try to connect.

or try 10210 and try the Internet section to help you.

My only suggestion would be to call telkom and ask them to reset your password for the new account :)

Just as a matter of interest, neither the TI Tracker nor the Password Management Tool are picking up the username and password combo sent to us in the SMS.

Yup - I think something went wrong along the line. It is possible that your account is not yet activated. Try calling and resetting

The line works already - we verified that when we first got MWeb back in 2007/8. Would I need to verify it again with the new Telkom service?

I think that is to activate the data portion - no issue trying :p

Same thing happened to me when I first got my TI account. They had to recreate it, cos the account didn't want to authenticate.

But I haven't received an order number? I haven't got a clue what number to put in there - the SMS we received didn't have an order number, just the access username and everything else I mentioned already.

Oh I see - uhmm...
I think the best option would be to call and ask them to reset/recreate your account.

Well, I'm now accessing MyBB from my TI account :D Consultant on the phone was knowledgeable and very helpful. Supplied me with new passwords for both access and email. I've just confirmed access to all services, TI Tracker is working too. She also confirmed that our service is already on 4mbps.

Happy bunny :p
