There must be a real shortage of unemployed youth and cleaners, gardeners and criminals in SA for the anc to want to do this. Let's get more hooligans on the streets to riot and burn stuff down.
Or it might make it so companies who want a driver or a receptionist don't put Grade 12 essential on their requirements. I mean why would a receptionist or a driver need a Grade 12?

Good idea, the technical colleges are still not adequate because their technical streams still expect people who struggled at school to do mathematics.

It's a great idea actually. Have you ever tried to get a plumber or an electrician to fix something at home? It's just about impossible.

And there are loads of other skills that we need. Sadly everyone wants to get a degree these days.

Currently they hope by grade 12 it can read or write ( written instructions, messages)
But Currently our schools are such a fail most grade 12s struggle with that

Another problem is the amount of students who have done all their training but can't qualify as artisans for some reason, I know for a fact that it is not hard to get an electrician to do some job for you, but getting a certified one is a different story.

it makes absolutely no difference what the education department does if only a few will get a job . finishing school sooner will just put more unemployed people on the street .
They need to grow the economy teach real life skills .

Apparently sex education is pretty good these days in primary school.

I am not familiar with the FET qualifications process, what needs to be done when one is done with the N Streams and needs to qualify?

I have heard about trade test preparations and Olifantsfontein, can you explain In detail?

In short. N2 Maths, science and trade subject to write trade test. Olifantsfontein... he he. At present we're busy with an interview program to get those people on track. They qualify and know fcall.
Electrician to do stuff legaly at your house - There's a program they enroll for at the FET college.

Thanks for the explanation, so why does one needs the N6 for if you can do the trade test and qualify as an artisan with N3?

I was at a technical school, its certainly didn't have dumb folk there. As for the subjects maths, physical science and technical drawing was compulsory. I had a teacher who always squashed the notion that if you cant be good with your head you can be good with your hands as you need your head for hands to do things.

While the teacher had good intentions with those words, it is a flawed notion that you can't be good with your hands if you aren't good with your head, people are different and teachers are very far from understanding what happens inside the head of someone who struggles with Mathematics but can lay bricks and build a straight wall.

Many trades people don't have a clue about maths and physics but are good at their jobs, many did not even finish primary school, let alone going as far as matric.

This plan just dumps tens of thousands of illiterate unemployed/unemployable kids on the streets a few years earlier than usual. What would they be - 15, 16? What will they do all day without taxpayer-funded school day care centres?

Rather let them work, school isn't for everyone either. I would rather be working with the kids at 17-18 who want to be there. You can probably teach them at a higher level.

We already have university graduates working as Burger flippers and handing out pamphlets at the traffic lights, so what will these Std 8 graduates be good for? Human speed bumps?

You looked at youth unemployment figures lately?
