Independent power producers and coal producers called on to help turn the economy around

The government has asked key suppliers to Eskom — independent power producers (IPPs) of renewable energy and coal producers — to help turn the economy around by considering cost reductions.

This is the first time the government has suggested to economic stakeholders that a haircut — a sacrifice on returns — be agreed as part of the solution to Eskom’s financial crisis.

How about you remove all the ridiculous BBBEE requirements on your suppliers, see how competition increases, corruption (skimming) decreases and prices of coal and other supplies come down by magic **?

**OK its not magic, it called free market forces.

Great if they had the cojones to ask the same of their bloated staff establishment. Not retrench just have them take a good shave.

1 Retrench your dead wood and overloaded staff.
2 Recover stolen money
3 Review and correct corrupt and ridiculous contracts
4 Retrenched employees to become debt collectors working on a % of outstanding fees collected
5 Switch off non payers even if it means the anc loses support - County before anc
6 Replace incompetent staff with competent staff to ensure reliability and continuous supply

Do this and you will turn it around.

Why look at your faults internally when you can ask for handouts and price cuts externally?

Can't read the whole article, but if I was an IPP I would attach some very huge conditions to that "haircut".... Eskom being able to provide clean audits and publish its financials on time for 2 years running and be a provable going concern without government bailouts.

Are they also going to have their internal power stations reduce costs by the same percentage?
